Traditional Banganga Route (13 KM)
The historic pedestrian trail starts at Banganga checkpost and passes through Charan Paduka, Adhkuwari, and Himkoti before reaching Bhawan. It is steeped in mythological significance where Mata performed various leelas.
- Charan Paduka: Holy shrine 1.5 km from Banganga where Mata's foot impression is preserved on stone.
- Pony & Palki Movement: The traditional track accommodates ponies, horses, and palkis alongside walkers, which can occasionally cause crowd bottlenecks.
- Stairs Shortcuts: Several flight-of-stairs shortcuts exist for agile pilgrims seeking faster ascent.
New Tarakote Marg (12.5 KM)
Inaugurated in 2018, Tarakote Marg begins near Katra bus stand and joins the traditional track at Adhkuwari. It is specifically engineered with a much gentler gradient, smooth tiled pavement, and zero horses or mules.
- Pedestrian & Battery-Car Only: Strictly horse-free, making it exceptionally clean, quiet, and odorless.
- Free Langar: A round-the-clock free community kitchen (Langar) operated by the Shrine Board serves hot meals to all walking pilgrims.
- Best for Families: Highly recommended for travelers with baby prams, elderly walkers, and devotees walking barefoot.
