The Holy Cave Shrine & Three Pindies

Perched at an altitude of 5,200 feet in the Trikuta Mountains of Jammu and Kashmir, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Bhawan is one of India's holiest Shakti shrines. Inside the sanctum sanctorum, there are no statues or idols; the Goddess manifests as three natural rock formations known as the Holy Pindies: Maha Kali (right, symbolizing Tamoguna), Maha Lakshmi (center, symbolizing Rajoguna), and Maha Saraswati (left, symbolizing Satvaguna).

• The Ancient Natural Cave: The original narrow cave with the cold Charan Ganga stream opens only during low-crowd winter months (typically mid-January to mid-February).
• The Modern Tunnels: Two spacious engineered tunnels facilitate smooth round-the-clock darshan for tens of thousands of devotees daily.
• Atka Aarti: Perched on the open marble courtyard outside the cave, morning and evening musical Aarti is performed by head priests amidst Vedic chants.

Mandatory RFID Yatra Access Card (Yatra Parchi)

Every single pilgrim (regardless of age) must possess a valid RFID Yatra Access Card before crossing the Banganga or Tarakote checkposts. The chip-embedded card tracks pilgrim movement across the 13 km trek for safety and emergency search operations.

• Where to Obtain: Free RFID issuance counters operate 24x7 at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra Railway Station (SVDK) and Katra Bus Stand.
• Online Registration: Pre-registration can also be completed online via the official shrine board website (maavaishnodevi.org).
• Validity: The RFID card must be tapped at checkposts and returned at exit gates upon completing the yatra.
